Horizon Grasslands

These grasslands are very expansive, continuing on over the horizon and far outside of the park. Also expansive is the amount of large prey to be found here like zebra, various antelopes, water buffalo, and elephants.

A favorite spot for leopards, it is quite easy to get lost in this large forest. Sausage trees grow in and around the forest, feeding fruit bats, baboons, and numerous other prey animals.

Only the end of Snaketongue dips into the reserve before it splits into two streams, hence its name. Some crocodiles manage to make their homes here, despite the strong current.

Mandla Stream

Mandla means "strength" or "power" in Zulu and Ndebele. Aptly named, this stream is far stronger than its twin, feeding the largest lake in the park: Elder Lake.

Elder Lake

A large lake that is always busy. It attracts many herbivores, especially water buffalo and elephants, which need large amounts of water. Also ever-present are crocodiles and hippopotamuses, so taking a dip or just a sip is always a risk.

Chorus Marsh

Named for the loud chorus of frogs that sing here, Chorus Marsh gets surprisingly deep at parts. Ground-dwelling birds like to nest here, making eggs a special treat to be had, especially for water monitors.
