` zola: 185 . @sekekama ❀ Zola hated travelling, not having a set place to stash her herbs. She was a being who took root somewhere--a being with a home, somewhere to call safe. But she had been uprooted, and now she found herself in unfamiliar territory. Her mother and sister had taken a break from the heat near the edge of this forest, but Zola found it near-impossible to sleep ever since they'd been on the move. They could never be nearly as safe without males to patrol the territory and with such small numbers.
Anxiously, she decided to stretch her legs, trying not to stray too far from the group. Maybe studying the plant life around here would help take her mind off of things. Something large and white caught her eye, and looking up revealed strange elongated... Things hanging from the trees. They intrigued her, and as she studied them, she noticed their beautiful red flowers. "How odd..." She murmured, feeling the desire to pluck one. Zola wondered if they had any medicinal properties. Fully engulfed in her observation, she wasn't paying ample attention to her unfamiliar surroundings.

A lone figure strode confidently over the terrain, his movements those of a seasoned predator. The lion, however large he was, hardly made a whisper of a sound as he paced onward. A look of faint distaste shone in his golden orbs as he surveyed the land. Sekekama preferred the open plains to condensed forests, finding them more suited to his strengths and approaching strangers were clearly visible. Here, however, he would be lucky if he would be able to see something right under his nose.
The graceful feline halted, his cranium tilted to better scent the air. He had assumed he was alone in these cursed lands but... Now he wasn't so sure. A scent drifted on the hollow breeze to twine around him, piquing the male's interest. A fae, not too far from where he now found himself. Sekekama only stayed still for a moment longer before resuming his prowl, this time in the direction of the opposing feline.
Soon, he had the pale damsel within his sights, her back turned to him as she looked at something he couldn't see. Sekekama observed her with an amused gaze, his long tail flicking in delight. It had been a long time since he had found another of his kind and even longer since he had seen one alone. One silent paws the towering brute strode forward, stopping just a pace or so behind the smaller female. "And who might you be? This is a dangerous place to be on ones own.. Where is your family, my dear?" Though his tone was nothing but polite and smooth, a dark light danced in his golden optics as he studied her.

` zola: 194 words . @sekekama ❀ Startled at the sudden sound of a voice--especially one behind her--she whipped her whole body around to face it. Her muscles were coiled, ready to flee, however the male had a highly relaxed composure. Still, she was wary, tail lashing in discomfort. When his words finally resonated in her mind, she managed to formulate a response, "T-They're close by." But a glance in their direction and the faintness of their scents told her that they weren't as close as she'd once thought.
Zola's heart hammered against her sternum as she swallowed hard, looking back to the hulking male. "My name is Zola," She finally introduced, forcing her voice to become collected, although it was still barely above a whisper. Unable to smell other lionesses on him, she felt it safe to assume he had no pride. Surely, he had come for them. This was a good thing, right? If he wanted to stick around, they would be far safer. The thought relaxed her, if only a bit. Still, she did not know this lion--for all she knew, he was no better than the ones they'd left in the first place.

Sekekama watched the fae with an amused eye as she spun to face him. She was much smaller than he and likely wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight, should he chose to ignite one. But those hadn't been his intentions while approaching her and he wouldn't entertain the thoughts now. Plus, even if he could probably best her, he could still get injured in the process, something he wasn't willing to risk.
Her lyrics slid past his audits, causing that brute to tilt his head. She had stumbled over her words in addressing him, something that Sek couldn't help but feel pleased with. If only his brother could see him now.. "It seems like you are too far from your family to be considered with them.. So, it seems, you are alone for the moment unless you count my company." The male spoke with a casual air, his golden optics still locked on her frame.
Without another word, Sekekama took a few steps toward her, closing the distance between them. He made sure to keep his face free from any threatening looks, his orbs holding a curious light as he breathed in her scent. "My name is Zola," He inclined his head to her in a charming manner. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Zola. My name is Sekekama," he responded after only a moment's pause. He lowered his cranium slightly to better see the smaller feline. "Now, tell me, what brings you to these lands?"

` zola: 231 words . @sekekama ❀ That this towering male knew that help was not nearby unnerved her, and she felt a shiver prick down her spine and into her legs. Her tail tip wavered to and fro, body stiff as a board and eyes wide so as not to miss even the flick of a whisker. It was no secret that Zola was uncomfortable. When the male took several steps towards her, she took several back. How he deeply inhaled her scent only further put her on edge, and his words did nothing to soothe her fear at this point. The name "Sekekama" was burned into her brain along with his intimidating appearance. He even had the scars to boot.
When he asked what brought her to this land, she answered honestly, "We split from our former pride and wandered here... My family is resting nearby." Zola saw no gain in lying to him, but she made sure to add the fact that her family was not far--not specifying how many lions that may be--to hopefully discourage him from doing anything... Distasteful. Maybe she was getting ahead of herself; she hardly knew a thing about this lion, yet alarm bells rang incessantly in her head. Males could be highly unpleasant in their own awful ways. But could they really afford to be picky at this point? All she wanted was to be able to settle down.

The towering brute hardly failed to notice her unease at his presence, something that the male intrigue with. Of course, most lone females feared males like him. Honestly Sekekama didn't blame them. He himself had known others who were willing to do terrible things to the faes and their cubs when taking over a pride. Sek himself had never done anything of the sort but he couldn't expect her to know that. "You should relax a little, Zola. The scent of your fear could attract unwanted attention," the male spoke soothingly, his tail giving a subtle flick.
His large paws thumped the ground as he took a small step backwards, giving her her space. For the moment, at least. There was no need to make her flee back to her family, especially when he had no idea how large a pride she still had with her. "We split from our former pride and wandered here... My family is resting nearby." Sek didn't miss the second mention of her family, but paid little attention to it.
At her words, however, an idea had sparked in the brute's mind. It didn't sound as if they had a male with them, thus they lacked protection. Perhaps he would stick around for a bit.. He had, after all, been looking for an opportunity like this. But it would be best not to mention his intent just yet. "Well, Zola, why did you stray from your family? Are you breaking away or simply taking a break?" It could never hurt to get some more information first from the pale fae.

` zola: 172 words . @sekekama ❀ When Sekekama mentioned unwanted attention, she almost laughed, if not for how her fear made her so solemn. Too late for that, Zola thought bitterly. However, to her surprise, he took a step back and gave her space. She was thankful for this, beginning to think perhaps he wasn't as bad as she thought. Don't get too comfortable, she chided herself, though she supposed the thought could apply to this male, as well.
He wanted to know more about their breaking off, and she again obliged him with an honest answer, if only because she was feeling desperate. "We broke off from our pride. The males that took over were... Unpleasant," She explained with a crinkle of her nose, not wanting to remember those brutes. Sekekama was at least far more courteous than them; that scored him a point with her. But being better than those rowdy males wasn't saying much. Zola would almost rather live with hyenas... Almost. As she mused, her muscles unwound, if only slightly.

Sek gave a sweep of his tail as he raised his cranium to test the air. In the time that had spoke, it appeared as if Zola's family hadn't moved from their original spot. Their scent drifted from the same direction and was still faint enough for him to be safe if there were a lot of them. But the distance also meant he couldn't detect if they were a few stragglers or many lionesses.
The towering lion lingered in his position for a moment longer, eyeing the lionesses with his piercing stare. In an instant, his polite and calm demeanor changed to something cold. His optics hardened as he again strode forth, this time with confidence. His mood swings were highly unpredictable, even for the male himself. His audit flicked sharply as he circled around her, observing her stance. Sekekama was growing bored of their interaction. Even if he did have something to gain from her family, he wasn't sure he would like to stick around any more. If Zola was this nervous didn't that mean she could have been abused by these rowdy males that she had spoken of? Wasn't it possible they were still around?
"So, Zola... Tell me. Who is it that you have in your little group? I would love to know more about them..." He made a point of attempting to flick her side with his tail. He had a strong suspension that it would be unwise to stick around for much longer. But who said he couldn't play around a little first? Sekekama didn't intend to do anything to harm Zola. He was rather beginning to like her, in fact.

` zola: 212 words . @sekekama ❀ He was sniffing. Why was he sniffing? Please don't, the small lioness begged mentally. Then, for a reason unbeknownst to her, Sekekama's demeanor changed in a flash. His expression switched from warm to cold like a tap, and he went from a step back to several forwards. He was circling. Why was he circling? What was going on? Did she miss something? Did she do something wrong? Zola hadn't even noticed that her heart had calmed until it picked up its thudding again.
Then, a sound, deep and smooth, filtered into her ears. He was speaking again. Another question. Another shiver uncomfortably crept down her spine and into her tensed limbs. She'd rather not answer this question, but Zola felt like she had no choice, especially with him circling her like a frenzied shark. His tail flicked against her side, and she shrank away as if it had burnt her. "I-It's just my mother and my sister and a pawful of others..." She hesitantly, shakily explained. At this point, fear had gripped her so fiercely that she desired to run and be away from this new and frightening male that was before--no--around her. Yet the fear of being caught and what would happen afterwards kept her rooted firmly in place.

The brute swept his tail, his tongue sliding across his lips as she reacted to his sudden movement. His change in mood seemed to have thrown her, something he was used to having happen. It wasn't something a lot of felines suffered from. He was odd in that way, something he had hated his entire life. But it could be used to his advantage at times like these...
His circling seemed to have finally put her over the edge. Sekekama could tell by her tense posture and her flinch as he brushed his tail against her coat. A small smirk tilted the male's lips upwards at the corners. Now things were beginning to pick up here. "I-It's just my mother and my sister and a pawful of others..." Ah so the males weren't with them. That was a relief and opened up a world of opportunities. Perhaps he could finally have his pride, after all. "That's good to hear..." He murmured thoughtfully, his head tilting again.
Sekekama stopped slightly behind the fae, his giant paws ceased their thumping against the ground. Huge golden optics roamed over her pale form. He had never met one of her coloring before. It was faintly unnerving to see a feline so light in color. How did she survive out here? "Well, perhaps I'll stick around for awhile, since it's only a few of you," Sek continued as if he had never stopped speaking, still a slight pace behind her left flank. He was curious to see what her reaction would be to his words, his audits pricked forward in anticipation.

` zola: 303 words . @sekekama ❀ Well, at least one of them was amused, she grumbled internally. Being with this male was emotionally draining, and their truthfully short interaction was dragged out to feel like an hour-long one, in her frazzled mind. "That's good to hear," she heard him purr out, and Zola cringed internally, which she unintentionally ghosted on the outside. Her initial feelings towards Sekekama were... Strangely mixed. He seemed courteous and certainly better than what she'd be dealing with at home, yet from this sole encounter she took a mental note that he was unpredictable. Unpredictable things only served to make her anxious, and she had no business with such things.
... Is what she would usually think. But without a pride, she was beginning to think differently. Why had he flipped on a dime and then back? This question settled in her stomach like a feather on a lake--not well. He was circling her, prodding at her... Teasing her? Did he find her amusing? Feeling that disturbingly familiar prickling in her spine, Zola flung her head around to watch him warily when he stopped behind her. Great, now he was glancing her over. She wanted to sigh audibly but refrained from doing so.
She had no more words for Sekekama when he suggested staying, refusing to welcome him with open arms, yet reluctant to outright deny him. This was partly out of fear, yes, but also a small glimmer of hope. Of excitement, even, as she tired of roaming around in unfamiliar lands, unprotected and in small numbers. And oh, how she missed having her precious stash of herbs, among other things. At the very least, Zola wanted a break from him so that she wouldn't die of a stroke from how high her blood pressure had gotten. Perhaps things would be better around the others. `ooc notes: n/a.

Sekekama frowned, a spark of disappointment lighting in his eyes. He had been hoping for a reaction from Zola, but received none. Something snapped inside of him and his mood switched back to one of calm. Sek paced away to stand before her, his tail twitching in irritation. He could take her family if he so desired, but it would be much harder to live with disgruntled lionesses than those that wanted his rule.
With a sigh he peered into her own optics. He would stick around but remain in the distance. Sek could be patient. He could wait them out, unless a better opportunity happened along of course. Zola and her little family would get desperate soon enough..
"It was lovely to meet you, Zola. I hope we meet again sometime. I'd love to get to know you more," Sek's lyrics had again turned polite, his momentary spite over. He turned as if to go, casting the she-cat a finally glance over his shoulder. "Watch your step, little lion. This world can be a dangerous place if you aren't careful," Sekekama turned, slinking back in the direction he had come from, no sound admitting from his paw steps as he walked.
He wouldn't go to far, but a lion had to eat. Their encounter had left him famished, something about the excitement of it all, he assumed. Sekekama didn't turn back again to look at the lioness, but her scent still clung to his nose.
