N efertari was drawn to the flat plains by the sweet, metallic scent of blood and the sight of vultures circling overheard. With drool pooling into her mouth, she broke into a lope until she beheld the sight of a Thompson's gazelle. She hardly took notice of the leopard responsible for the kill, knowing it to be no threat. At the mere sight of her, it scrambled off, which drew a grin to form upon her face. She'd come just in time--it barely had a chance to start digging in before she showed up. Without a shred of remorse, she was upon the kill, tearing at the fresh pink flesh and swallowing large mouthfuls. The vultures had started to gather, but they watched from a distance, for now, so she paid them no mind. She gave a periodic glance around to see if any other predators would be attracted as she was, but the lone hyena was in the clear, for now. 161 words . @sekekama

Sekekama had made good time on his travels, rarely stopping to rest. After his encounter with Zola in the forest, the male had set off to find a terrain more suited to his needs. In no time at all he had found himself in the perfect place. Flat savanna stretched out before him as far as the eye could see. A slight sigh escaped the brute's maw as he slowed his trek to a gentle amble, the need for food driving him onwards.
He had been fortunate enough to stumble across a carcass taken down by age and the elements. Buzzards had already stacked their claim over the kill but they hardly fazed the huge feline. He had been able to eat his fill for the first time in a very long time. But that had been days ago and Sekekama was once again on the hunt for someone else's meal.
Soon the savory scent of a downed gazelle reached the brute, drifting on the light wind to meet him. A smile turned the corners of his lips upwards in a sinister smirk as he turned in the direction of the carcass. It didn't take him long to arrive on the scene, but he wasn't the first to have caught the scent of an easy meal. A hyena already stood over the carcass, ripping away at the flesh of the animal. A low growl rumbled in Sekekama's throat at the sight. 'Hyenas... Such foul creatures,' the disdain of his thoughts was clear in his gaze as he stood forward confidently. A lone hyena posed little threat to the brute, that he was sure of. But, if there was one, there were bound to be more. Hyenas rarely traveled without their clans, something Sek had learned the hard way.
"I believe," he rumbled, looking coldly at the female, "that you are eating my carcass."

S he'd seen him coming a mile away (literally), but Nefertari was going to scarf down as much as she could before he was able to get near her. It was no surprise that he intended to steal the kill from her as easily as she had the leopard, and she tensed her muscles in preparation to dodge him should he come at her. However, she didn't back off just yet. Sure, lions were detestable, selfish brutes, but the fact that this one was so haughty as to call the carcass his when he hadn't even touched it yet peeved her more than usual. Licking the blood from her lips just to irritate him, she quipped, "You 'believe' wrong." Instinctively, the long fur on her mane and tail fluffed up, and her tail lifted to curl above her back. She knew he wouldn't be intimidated, but she was going to make it obvious that she wasn't afraid of him. That didn't mean she'd hand him her throat on a platter, though. Nefertari waited for his response with a goading nonchalant, even mocking expression. 182 words . @sekekama

The brute drew to a halt a few paces from the hyena, his golden orbs fixated on her smaller frame with a look of disdain. His tail gave an irritated flick, the only sign he was willing to show her that her attitude had gotten to him. "That's brave of you to say otherwise," his tone was smooth as his gaze shifted to the carcass. He could practically taste it already.
A growl rumbled from his maw, his ivories snapping at the air as he stepped forward. He had little patience for vermin like this. Sek wanted to get back to check on the little family of lionesses he had stumbled upon. But aside from that he was hungry and the only thing standing in his way was a single hyena.
"Move," he hissed, audit flicking in anger. "I would have no qualms with making you, if you would prefer.." What could have made her so bold, to stand up to a lion like himself? It was intriguing as well as infuriating.

N efertari's lips tugged into a grin with the knowledge that she'd succeeded in irritating him. He could hide it all he liked, but she knew as well as he did that he was peeved, especially because she was merely one hyena. The audacity, she mocked in her mind, and it drew a few audible chuckles from her. "I only speak the truth," She then stated calmly. "You've only just laid your beady eyes on it."
"I would have no qualms with making you, if you would prefer..." He threatened. Again, she laughed at him. How typical. "I would prefer you work for a meal for once, yes," She snarked. "I think it'd even do you some good." Now, she was positive him lunging at her was imminent, and she readied mind and body to avoid him. While not the most graceful-looking of creatures, she was far more nimble than him. Yet, one could not tell she was preparing to do so from her relaxed posture. 165 words . @sekekama

Her vocals sent a trill of anger spinning through his nerves. Never before had anyone who stood alone been so brave. It was infuriating, to say the least. "I would prefer you work for a meal for once, yes, I think it'd even do you some good." Sekekama feigned surprise at her words, his audits flicking up to an alert position. "And did you work for this meal? I didn't think Hyena's were capable of such a feat.." The brute made a show of sniffing the air before returning his piercing gaze to the her form. "But... judging by the scent of leopard, you weren't here first either, were you?"
Sekekama lunged toward the carcass without warning, ivories barred and a snarl rumbling from his chest. The carcass would be his, no matter what it cost him in return. It was no longer about hunger, now it was about proving his strength. He would best this little weasel and claim his carcass.

S he was well aware of her own thievery and felt no remorse for it. However, the deeper meaning of her words seemed to have flown right over the brute's head. Nefertari had to give it to this male, though--she'd expected him to attack her straight away. She supposed male lions were not all the same, but they were certainly all loathsome. Still, when he finally came at her she pushed off of the ground and leapt off to the side, loping a few steps before stopping. He seemed content to possessively huddle over the carcass instead of ripping her throat out, which was interesting to her. Snorting, she finally retorted with, "You know nothing about my kind, you ignorant fool. We are great hunters, unlike yourselves. I never claimed the kill was mine, just that it wasn't yours. You lot are so full of yourselves."
Before he could truly lunge at her this time, she trotted around to his backside, giving him a wide berth. However, once directly behind him, she herself lunged for him and aimed to nip him right in the behind. Since he surely wouldn't be pleased with this, she was prepared to pull back and avoid his angry blows. A carcass of this size meant more to her than him, and while she'd never let him know she was separated from her clan, it was significantly harder hunting without teamwork. 234 words . @sekekama

Ah, at last! The carcass was his! His lunge toward the animal had sent the hyena scuttling away like only her kind could. Sekekama gave a snort of disdain before plunging his gaping maw into the animal. 'Vermin...' He ate fast, his mind wandering to thoughts of the hyena's clan. They could be here at any moment. Unless she was alone... But the thought was quickly dismissed from his mind. Scavengers like herself always traveled in packs and hers couldn't be far behind.
Sekekama ignored her words, letting them float over his head. He no longer cared for her, as long as she either kept her distance or left. Soon, she herself had been pushed to the back of his mind as he swallowed yet another bite.
But the hyena would make sure her presence wasn't forgotten. A sharp nip on his rump coaxed an enraged snarl from the brute's maw as he spun to face the smaller creature. His golden optics were alight with fury as he finally unsheathed his claws. He swung a massive paw at her, aiming for either the head or the throat and not caring which.

O f course he wouldn't take her words to heart, for lions thought too damn highly of themselves. Nefertari felt a prick of irritation at not having a clan at a time like this, but there was little time to mourn the fact, for she had really fed the flames of fury now. She was ready for his outrage and leapt backwards, narrowly avoiding his deadly sharp claws. She felt the wind from his powerful swipe across her face. It was sobering. Her heart picked up its pace, thudding against her sternum as adrenaline pumped through her veins, but she kept her composure. Nefertari knew how lions tended to get--they got so possessive of their food that they'd even sleep on it, so she had her doubts that he'd want to give chase. No, that would cost to much energy. Again, she laughed audibly at her own internal snarks towards him. Usually, she was far more composed, but she needed (and wanted) him to become irate enough to finally buzz off. Thus, her filter was not screwed on quite so tightly. "Lost your nerve? Come now, it's just a little pinch," She taunted for added measure, but then she waited to see what he'd do next. 205 words . @sekekama

Sekekama drew back towards the carcass as the hyena narrowly dodged his outstretched claws. He was getting extremely ruffled by this fae and her outbursts of insane laughter. Another deep growl rumbled over the space between them as his tail lashed the air. "Why so cowardly? Don't you want the carcass back?" Sekekama's voice slithered tauntingly towards her a forced smile painted on his features.
He wanted to continue eating but felt it would be unwise to turn his back to her again. Torn between his hunger and his rage, Sek stayed where he was uncertainty shinning through his optics. Backing away from the hyena and towards the carcass, Sekekama made his decision. She was just one hyena and hardly worth his time. She had the most to lose if he chose to give chase.
Turning away, the brute again sunk his teeth into the carcass once more. He tried to keep an eye on the hyena but found it hard to both eat and observe her. But it mattered little to the male. What could she do to him that would faze him? He would eat his fill and leave her the scrapes.

N efertari rolled her eyes, almost in disbelief of this lion's idiocy. "If you're so 'brave' then let me have at your throat, you fool," She snapped back, glaring at him with her own piercing amber eyes. It was admittedly difficult not to get irritated with idiotic beasts who got away with throwing their weight around. Stubbornly, she wasn't going to give in so easily. Nefertari was famished, and he'd need to find something else to keep himself full, anyway. Not to mention how dearly she wanted to win this confrontation. Of course, he went back to eating. Patiently, she waited, stalking around only slightly. Let him get comfortable--he underestimated her, anyway. Many hyenas would throw in the towel in her situation, but if he thought she were such a hyena, he was wrong. Slowly, quietly, she approached his tail. At first, she appeared to merely be waiting, but she suddenly lunged for his tail. Nefertari would clamp down on it in her powerful jaws and tug with all her might briefly before letting go to allow herself not to have her throat crushed today. 184 words . @sekekama

A gruff laugh escaped his maw as she spoke. "If you're so 'brave' then let me have at your throat, you fool," The towering brute tilted his head almost mockingly, shaking his head with a sigh. "You hyenas think you're clever and powerful. It's almost sad to see what you're diluted minds get you into. Even now you challenge me for a carcass that was never yours. Move on before you get hurt." Sekekama kept his tone light and almost friendly as he spoke but their was a deadly glint in his orbs.
After he had finished his piece, Sek continued eating without offering her further regard. His tail swished the ground behind him gently, clearing the loose grasses and dirt. He had nothing to fear from this hyena, that was quickly becoming apparent. But still she hovered around him like a plague. Sekekama gave a snort of disdain and turned away thoughts of the fae.
But perhaps she wasn't as distance as he would have hoped. Sek let out a roar of pain, again whirling to face the courageous hyena who had dared bite his tail. A crooked snarl fixated upon his features turning his handsome face into something sinister. "Now, you've crossed a line," the male leapt forward, no longer caring about the carcass he was leaving behind.
Sekekama aimed a blow at her chest with a massive paw his claws reaching for her throat. Without a pause between attacks Sekekama lunged forward, aiming to bit down on her shoulder.

A s expected, the absolutely pissed lion came at her, but this time it was full-force. She immediately leapt diagonally back from him, but this time it was more than the wind she felt from his massive paw. She'd sorely miscalculated the intensity of his wrath. With a crude thud, it collided with her chest, his blade-like claws shredding the flesh that had the misfortune of being in their way. A pained wail escaped her, and it was through sheer adrenaline alone that she dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the death that came with being caught in those massive jaws. They still grazed her flank, but that pain was nothing compared to the stinging pangs in her chest. Panicked, she fled as fast as possible and prayed he wasn't so peeved as to give chase. She could probably outmaneuver him so long as the adrenaline kept pumping through her system, but she was done dancing with death today. Bright crimson blood dripped down her chest in dangerous quantities, but she didn't have time to worry about it just yet. 179 words . @sekekama
