Croc
Crocuta crocuta
male, he
3 years old, born November 27
heterosexual, aromantic
chaotic neutral
father unknown
mother forgotten
siblings: Tar, Throat
APPEARANCE
Croc is so named for a jagged muzzle and a tendency to "hiss", slurring his words.
He's big for a male hyena, covered in a dusty brown spotted coat; hair is patchy around a bulging stomach, and particularly thick between the ears and along the nape.
Most of his spots are collected in clusters on his belly, face, and haunches, and are so dense on his nape that they have completely darkened it; a wheat brown "cloak" across his shoulders and along his spine is completely spotless.
His tail is almost always bristling, shaped like a bottlebrush, and is of an almost black shade of brown.
His boxed head ends in a blunt snout with a big olive black nose; his upper jaw is nicked along the bridge with many bumps from falls he's taken.
Eyes are small and sloping, a gritty dark brown.
One ear has been completely chewed off, leaving a shredded stump, while the other presents numerous holes, rips and tears.
PERSONALITY
Despite his ragged appearance, Croc is a fairly energetic, if thick-skulled hyena.
He's as curious and playful as the day he was born, and no amount of abuse in his natal clan has dampened his mood; one might even say getting ejected was the best thing that ever happened to him.
He's rebellious and likes to pull pranks, and although mischievous and at times daring, the male isn't one for fighting.
He'll quickly submit to other hyenas when things turn serious, or run when things go sour.
Unfortunately he's forgetful and seems to have trouble learning from his mistakes, and will often fall back to old habits with fiercer results than the last time.
His submissiveness applies almost exclusively when alone or to other hyenas.
If a clan's there to back him up, he'll swiftly become one of the boldest in the bunch.
Although he prefers to avoid other predators, if he thinks he can best something then there'll no end to his courage and torture, cackling, nipping, and taunting until he gets his way.
The hyena is generally cool-headed, more prone to let things go in one ear and out the other if they even meet them at all.
He takes things with a grain of salt--assuming he doesn't forget them entirely--and projects an air of joy and optimism even during the worst of times.
He's also absentminded and can easily be distracted by...just about anything, really.
HISTORY
Croc was born under a different name that he doesn't care to recall.
He was the only male among a litter of three; being the smallest and least feisty of the bunch, he was quickly pushed to the wayside and grew up as a rather skinny fellow.
He had trouble letting others be and taking the hint when someone didn't want to be bothered, which oftentimes ended in a painful lesson to get the point across.
He was small back then, this compiled with his demeanor resulting in much derogation and pummeling, his cowardice alone often resulting in extra punishment.
He was an okay hunter, but sometimes his antics would get the clan into trouble or lose them a meal.
For being a constant annoyance and detriment he was kicked out early, yet since being pushed out the hyena has learned to finally alter his behavior, if only a little, so that he wouldn't starve to death on his own.
It's only been a year since he's had to leave his natal clan, but in that time he's grown twice his size, putting on the pounds, muscles and fat alike.
Of course in the day-to-day life he remains relatively hungry throughout, loner that he is, always on the lookout for his next meal.
