Savanna takes place in Wanangwa National Park, which is loosely based off of Kruger National Park in South Africa. See a list of the large flora and fauna here. For a longer list of mammals that includes small wildlife, look here. The weather and time of year are also similar. In South Africa, there are two distinct seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. The rainy season is from November to March, peaking in January and February. It is very hot and humid at this time because it is summer in these months for the southern hemisphere. As a result, animals are generally less active and crowd around waterholes. Rain of varying intensity and several-day-long thunderstorms are frequent. April to October is the dry season, which is winter. Wildfires are more likely to happen because there is little rain. In Wanangwa National Park, it is currently the rainy season in summer. Wanangwa National Park Map (warning: large image size):
